David Amato has been coaching for 20 years.  His experience includes coaching at the highest levels in NCAA Division I for swimming as well as junior and senior national level swimmers.

David began triathlon and bicycle racing in 1987 and began coaching triathletes and cyclists after 10 years of competition.  Since the mid-1990s, he has worked with hundreds of swimmers, cyclists and triathletes helping them achieve their goals.

Along with sport specific training for endurance sports, David utilizes strength-training programs to enhance his athletes’ performance.  As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), he develops sound, safe and effective training programs for endurance sports and motorsports athletes.

In 2007, David created TrainingTempered, which is dedicated to working with athletes of all levels both in person and online.

Most importantly, David Amato is a coach who believes that how you reach your goals is as important as actually reaching them.  Athletes who seek to work with David have the desire to improve as well as be competitive in their respective sports.

David’s coaching combines scientific principles, his experience, and his intuitive sense to deliver programs that are safe, effective, innovative and enjoyable.

To train someone is to make them stronger.  The definition of the word “temper” applies perfectly to what I do.  Among its various meanings, to temper means “to work something to make it stronger.”  Regardless of the state in which my athletes arrive, when they begin their TrainingTempered program, they embark on a journey that will provide them with invaluable experiences as they train to reach their goals.

Temper is also used to indicate a mental state.  I encourage all of my athletes to constantly consider the big picture.  A cool “temper” is always inspiring and productive.  It is also very conducive to maintaining excellent sportsmanship.

When we maintain our focus, manage and direct our energies, our actions have positive meaning and purpose.   I encourage my athletes to devote their energy to their goals and eliminate any misdirected energy.  By eliminating misdirected energy, an athlete is left with a clear path to achieving his or her full potential.
